Program Requirements & Eligibility

At Canadian Pilot Academy, we understand that aspiring pilots have many questions. Here are some key points to help you get started with your flight training journey.

With an RPP, you can fly as pilot-in-command of a single-engine airplane that carries a maximum of four passenger seats, but you can carry only one passenger at a time. You will fly under day VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions within Canadian airspace.
To apply for the RPP, you must be at least 16 years old. However, you can complete your first solo flight at 14 years of age.
You will need a valid Category 1, 3, or 4 Medical Certificate to be eligible for the RPP.
You must complete a minimum of 25 hours of flight time, which includes 15 hours of dual instruction flight time, including at least two hours of cross-country flight, and five hours of solo flight time.
Yes, you must successfully complete a flight test that meets the standards outlined in the 'Flight Test Standard – Recreational Pilot Permit – Airplane (TP12475E).
While ground school instruction is not a mandatory requirement for the RPP, it is highly recommended to ensure that you are well-prepared for the written examination.
